Don’t mess with a dead ranger
The trilogy formed by the Lord of the Rings books has become in a worldwide popular saga with its games, movies and books. Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor is based on the same universe, narrating a different story to the main works. In this third-person action adventure title, you will have some freedom in an almost completely open-world. Developed by Monolith, this title assures action against Mordor hoards that try to strike the whole Middle-Earth, which is available for PC digital download, physical edition and consoles.
In this game, you will play as Talion, a ranger who is murdered by Sauron’s armies alongside his family. Although he died he was able to be revived, empowered with some new and strange wraith-like skills that allow him to take control over his enemies...and now he vows to take revenge. The story is placed right between the two canonical works The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and promises to align with the main storyline of J.R.R. Tolkien. Some classic characters like Gollum will take their place during the game with more or less importance, depending on the situation.
As for the technical aspect, we can state that the game looks really good in full HD. The weather such as rain on the characters creates realistic light effects on the clothes, which shows the level of Monolith’s detail on this title. During the development of Shadow of Mordor, the creators have put special attention on the physics, not only with clothes but on the enemies’ hits, so it is possible to unbalance your enemies with heavy strikes.
This title’s gameplay is really similar to other adventures like Assassin’s Creed from which it borrows some of the most well-known hallmarks. You will be free to face the missions in different ways, infiltrating on the enemy’s base or entering and defeating all the foes you find on your way. Talion can climb, hide in the shadows and pass through little cornices for surprising your enemies with a heavy hit.
Thanks to the powers Talion has regained, you can use instant teleport to catch foes that are running away or use your skills to not being discovered. The in-combat abilities allow you to fight against a high numbers of enemies, using shockwave-like spells mixed with your physical warrior and your face-to-face swordsmanship abilities.
Nemesis System is handy since you can create your own minion army for taking over the main Mordor creatures
One of the main additions to Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor is the Nemesis System. Thanks to this feature you can make different enemies obey you without question. This system works through the fear they will feel once you get rid of several enemies. Talion then uses his powers to command a character to assassinate his leader, to gather information spying, to terrorize his comrades, narrate what he has seen or to sacrifice himself. This is handy since you can create your own minion army for taking over the main Mordor creatures.
